Discover fascinating stories about the ways civilian life in our region was impacted by the Civil War when you join us for this special event weekend, now hosted in May! GCV&M does not host opposing force fire demonstrations or reenactments, but rather gives visitors the opportunity to engage with our historic interpreters and guest experts to better understand this tumultuous era in American History and the connections to our American experience today. Explore the relationship between President Lincoln and Frederick Douglass, see every detail of the garments Union soldiers wore into battle, smell coffee and bacon cooking over open fires, learn about women who disguised themselves as men to enlist, watch musket loading drills, fall in line with either the “Mumford ranks” or the “Caledonia ranks,” and so much more.
